With EU Green-Claims Rules Taking Effect, SilkSilky’s Silk Range Stands on Fiber Content and Certificate Numbers, Not Adjectives
As the European Union’s September 27 prohibition on generic environmental marketing reshapes how textile brands describe their products, SilkSilky, a direct-to-consumer brand specializing in 6A-grade 100% mulberry silk, points to a record it can document line by line: fiber composition, construction method and third-party certificate numbers, each published and open to independent verification.
The EU’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition directive, enforceable across member states from September 27, treats unsubstantiated generic environmental claims — terms such as “eco-friendly,” “green” and “sustainable” used without recognized backing — as prohibited commercial practices. The shift puts a premium on specific, verifiable product information over broad language.
On that measure, SilkSilky’s product facts are already on the record. Every product in its collection — from bedding and pillowcases to sleepwear and apparel — is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 at Product Class 1 (Certificate No. 2406198), the standard’s strictest level, applying the limit values set for textiles designed for babies and toddlers. The brand additionally holds ECOCERT GREENLIFE certification (No. 00297582), covering environmental and social-responsibility standards in its production. Both certificate numbers are published on the brand’s site and can be checked through the OEKO-TEX® Label Check database.
SilkSilky is equally specific about what its products are made of. Signature bedding, pillowcases and nightwear are woven 100% mulberry silk; select loungewear and intimate pieces use a silk-knit construction that adds stretch for daily wear, with full fiber composition listed on each product page. All silk is 6A-grade long-fiber mulberry silk. Where the brand draws a material comparison, it keeps to a verifiable one: silk is a natural protein fiber and, unlike polyester or nylon sleepwear, does not shed synthetic microplastic fibers in domestic washing.
“The new European rules raise the bar for the whole industry, and we think that is healthy,” said Nina, founder of SilkSilky. “We would rather a customer be able to read our fiber content and look up our certificate number than ask them to trust an adjective.” SilkSilky’s collection, including its OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified silk sleepwear, is available at silksilky.com and through the brand’s localized storefronts across 13 markets in North America, Europe and Australia.
