Motivational Speaker Shawn Anderson: “My Words Lack Heart If I Don’t Live Them.”

Anderson Inspires by Walking Across Ninth Country Since 2014

LOS ANGELES, California – September 13, 2023 – In 2014, at age 52, Shawn Anderson walked 530 miles across Spain in 27 days – the first country he crossed wearing sneakers and carrying a backpack. At age 60, the motivational expert recently finished walking across Scotland – the ninth country he’s now crossed by foot.

Creating extra-mile challenges is nothing new for the 7-time motivational author and inspirational speaker. The author of A Better Life: An Inspiring Story About Starting Over, SOAR to the Top! and The Four Fibs, Anderson has walked across England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, France, Portugal, two different routes across Spain and 750 miles around Shikoku, Japan, during the past nine years. He has also peddled a bike 4,000 miles solo across the United States twice.

“I use these physical adventures as ax-sharpening tools,” Anderson shares. “Life has a way of dulling us unless we keep ourselves sharp. By walking hundreds of miles across a foreign country with only a backpack over my shoulders, I create opportunities to push myself through some tough challenges. And every time I complete one of these adventures, I return home bigger in purpose and stronger in passion.”

In addition to being a successful author and lifetime entrepreneur, Anderson is also the creator of Extra Mile Day – a day recognizing the capacity we each have to create positive change when we “go the extra mile.” On November 1, 2022, 512 mayors and cities made the unique declaration and recognized those in their local communities who were “going the extra mile” in volunteerism and service to make their communities better.

Anderson shares: “My words lack heart if I don’t live what I write. If I were to write and speak about creating the most passionate and purposeful life I can dream, and then fail to live my own words, I would simply be a talker. If I’m going to be successful in motivating others to live the best version of themselves, I’d better be extraordinary at first motivating myself.”

Anderson concludes: “Talking about ‘going the extra mile’ and overcoming fear are empty words unless I know what it really feels like. My words lack heart if I don’t live what I write. I believe too many motivational experts talk about what they don’t really know. I’m not that guy. I know what it means to ‘walk the talk.’”
