Clean Hoods Express Expands Into the Dirty

Restaurant kitchen hood cleaning is a dirty job.  Conveyor oven cleaning is a dirty job.  But Mike Creamer of Florida based Clean Hoods Express is ready to do it.  Clean Hoods Express has expanded their restaurant hood cleaning business to include pizza conveyor oven cleaning throughout central Florida.  The company has teamed up with a group of professional oven cleaners to bring expert service to the industry.

“Like a lot of hood cleaning companies we tried to clean conveyor ovens in the past and failed.  We wound up not putting it back together right and busted the arms.  Another time we couldn’t get the fingers back in the correct order so the next day it wouldn’t work,” said Creamer.  “We just didn’t have the expertise.”

These costly and embarrassing mistakes lead the company to turn away conveyor oven cleaning.  Creamer said, “I get calls regularly from pizza shops looking for an oven cleaning.  I knew there was opportunity.”  The lack of training and focus has left an untapped niche.  Many pizza restaurants force their kitchen staff to clean or skip cleaning altogether.  That leaves thousands of potential customers.

The potential downside to not cleaning or not cleaning ovens properly is huge,  broken equipment, increased R&M expense and lost bonuses when inspectors find dirty, unevenly cooked food.  Consider that most bonuses are based on a percentage of profit it’s an easy sell.

Creamer received a call from a group of experienced oven cleaners looking for an opportunity to grow.  He quickly saw the synergy and made a deal that was good for everyone especially the customers.  He could offer more services at a competitive price, there was more work for everyone and the customer got excellent service with one call.  Now when the phone rings he says yes without hesitation.

The company charges around $500 for a complete cleaning each quarter.  Considering the cost to the area manager it’s really quite reasonable.  Most area managers get 15% of profit.  So a $500 cleaning is $75 out of pocket.  The costis a small investment in relieving the manager of a duty he doesn’t want. It also guarantees the result will pass a corporate inspection.  With todays extremely tight labor market it’s really a bargain.

The work is done after closing in about three to four hours. Generally customers provide a key and alarm code to allow time for the ovens to cool.

Clean Hoods Express uses environmentally friendly cleaning products and old fashioned elbow grease along with a health dose of wet steam pressure washing to completly clean the conveyor oven parts before reassembling them.  Making the work affordable is easy with the right training, people and equipment.
